These courses are part of a comprehensive teacher training program coordinated by the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA).  They are effective in helping the novice teacher get started and provide on-going professional development to the established teacher.

There are two categories of enrollment:  1- Participant, and 2- AuditorParticipants must submit a good quality VHS video tape of their performance of required pieces from the Suzuki Method repertoire to the SAA.  Participants who are approved by the SAA to take the teacher training course and successfully complete the course may register the unit with the SAA.  For more information and an application form you may contact the SAA at www.suzukiassociation.org or call 1-888-3-SUZUKI.  Auditors do not have the option of registering the unit and they are not required to submit a tape to the SAA. Auditors must have   completed the Every Child Can course and be members of the SAA.

Observers are welcome to attend all institute activities except the Teacher Training Courses.

Important information concerning Teacher Training courses:

Prerequisite to training
Every Child Can!® (ECC) is required prior to taking Book 1.

Course Order
Courses must be taken in order through Book 2.

Audition Requirement
To qualify as a participant in training courses rather than auditor, applicants must submit a videotape audition of specified repertoire to the SAA, preferably prior to enrollment. Tapes should be submitted at least 8 weeks prior to the course start date, with the required fees and a completed application form. If submitted later than 8 weeks before the course start date, audition results determining participant eligibility may not be available prior to the course, and will require late audition fees. For courses occurring during summer 2008, applicants submitting tapes later than March 31, 2008 may not receive audition results prior to the course, even if meeting the above deadlines. An applicant may enroll late as “tape pending”, but will incur late audition fees, and audition results determining eligibility for participant credit will probably not be available until after the course. If auditions from “tape pending” applicants are not accepted, their course work will not be eligible retroactively for SAA credit registration as a participant, only as an auditor – even if course work was completed. For further information, please see the SAA website at www. suzukiassociation.org, in the teacher section under training, the downloadable video audition application form (with instructions); or call the SAA toll free (888) 378-9854 for this form.

Required Course Preparation
All workshop participants are asked to prepare the repertoire to be studied to the point of fluent performance. Memorization is not required but is recommended. Additionally, participants should be conversant with the ideas presented in Dr. Suzuki’s Nurtured by Love.

All participants will be performing in class. Strings and woodwinds are expected to provide their own instruments. It is recommended that participants bring a tape recorder and a notebook to all sessions. 100% attendance is required for registering the course.
